The mission of SMART's Counseling Program is to assist children, adolescents and adults to better manage internal and external challenges.  The program works collaboratively with trained professionals to ensure a comprehensive quality of service to the community.

 

SMART is licensed by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to provide outpatient mental health services.  In November of 2004, SMART began providing community-based counseling services to serve both its foster children and families as well as persons in the larger community.  SMART will offer individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults in our Windham, Maine offices.

SMART has compassionate, masters-level counselors who have years of experience in the field. 

Laura Ladin, LCPC. A licensed professional counselor, Laura obtained her Master's Degree in Psychology from Towson State University. She has nine years of professional experience. Her work history includes home-based services, work with inner-city youth and play therapy. Laura is client centered in her approach and believes that building relationships is the key to effective practice. She is particularly interested in working with teenaged girls and clients who struggle with depression and PTSD.

Matthew Lombard, LCSW, graduated from Boston College with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Matt has experience working with individuals of different ages in a variety of clinical settings. Since graduation Matt has worked with children through an intensive in-home program in York County as well as with adults and families in an outpatient setting. Matt takes a cognitive-behavioral approach to supporting clients and also has training in Dialectic Behavioral Training (DBT) with adults. Matt takes an ecological systems approach, that is strength based and client centered.

Cynthia Grover, LCSW, LADC.  Cynthia obtained her Master's Degree from Boston University and is licensed as a Social Worker and as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor.  She has 18 years of clinical experience.  Her work history includes both inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse, school-based counseling and employee assistance. She has worked with clients of all ages.  Her approach is client-centered and solution-focused. 

Matthew Thibault, LCSW, graduated from Humboldt State University with a Master's Degree in Social Work.  He has 10 years of professional experience, including residential and outpatient settings, working with children, adults and couples.  His broad clinical experience enables varied treatment methodologies to better meet individual and couple’s needs. Matthew’s client-centered approach incorporates realistic interventions and focuses on individual’s strengths engaging people to move forward.
